Groupwork
One of the most compelling lessons about the innovation process occurred when we shared our contact lists with the other groups during the stakeholder review and engagement workshop. Although I had read about cooperative process, I now appreciate how having open cooperation (rather than competition) between teams truly amplifies the learning process. This reinforced my belief that experiential learning provides a more robust framework rather than simple lectures or reading.
It was great to reconnect after reading week to see all of the progress we had made individually. I believe that a critical part of group work is effective use of individual talents, in pursuit of the greater goal. During reading week, each member of our group went off in their own direction, pursuing their own lines of inquiry. Then, at the class immediately after, we shared what we had learned, building a strong web of information we could draw from to build upon our innovation. In the future, it would be more effective to have more frequent progress updates, so that we would not be doubling up on labour. In this case however, it all worked out.
